B-MAXGP Information, Competition Regulations
The Basic-MAX GP Regulations (hereafter referred to as “B-MAX GP Regulations”) stipulate additional restrictions unique to the Basic-MAX GP, in addition to the Official Tamiya Mini 4WD Competition Regulations (hereafter “Tamiya Regulations”) as published by Tamiya, Inc.
The additional restrictions in the B-MAX GP Regulations are as follows:
[0] Changes from ver2.0 to ver2.1
Relaxing of restrictions on countersinking chassis’ and plates/stays. Though allowed countersinking had been limited to screw holes with visible screw heads (as viewed from the underside of the chassis), countersinking is now allowed in any/all screw holes.
[1] Machines
1. Competitor Car Type
Competitor car must be in compliance with Official Tamiya Regulations.
2. Competitor Car Specifications
In addition to the official Tamiya regulations, competitor car must also adhere to the following regulations:
(1) Bodies
- Only plastic bodies may be used.
- Original Tamiya mounting parts must be used (front and rear).
- Bodies may not be separated.
- Any combination of body and chassis is allowed.
- Wing (spoilers) may not be installed.
3. Competitor Car Dimensions
(1) Tires/Wheels
- Any standard wheel size/tire compound may be used. Tire size must match wheels, i.e., medium to medium, large to large. Mismatched combinations are prohibited.
- No modifications to the tire size/characteristics are allowed (including but not limited to: using parts cleaner, Zippo oil, etc.)
4. Motor
Motors must conform to official Tamiya regulations.
5. Batteries
- Battery holders must be from the original chassis (no swapping)
- No parts from a disassembled motor may be used, i.e., no motor shafts, motor spacers, etc.
- Batteries must be installed in the direction intended for the chassis (i.e., no FMAR).
6. Modifications
(1) Body
Body modifications are permitted only in the following cases
- Contacting points (within 3mm) may be trimmed only when: ensuring a proper fit if using a body intended for a different chassis; the body interferes with the normal operation of a stay or mass damper. No trims that are determined to have changed the shape/style are allowed (determination at race staff discretion).
- To be able to seat an animal character, the canopy portion of the body may be removed (animal must be installed).
- Body segment removal/appending is allowed only for mesh insertion in accordance with the example provided with the specific kit.
- If your animal character or wing comes off your machine or if the cut/meshed area is damaged during the run, the machine will be disqualified.
Please ensure animal characters are firmly affixed with double-sided tape or superglue. Shoe glue is allowed for animal character mounting.
(2) Chassis
Chassis modification is permitted only in the following cases
- Only Standard Tamiya regulation chassis’ may be used.
- Any modifications except the following are prohibited:
a. Roller hole expansion (maximum of 2.0mm)
b. Countersinking screws holes to prevent track damage.
Note: All screw holes may be countersunk.
(3) Mass Dampers
- Mass damper weights must be in original/official/intended mounting positions.
- Side mass dampers are allowed.
- Any side mass damper stay may be used in original/unmodified condition.
Only countersinking is allowed to prevent track damage. - Mass damper weights may not be modified.
- Mass damper movement is limited to vertical movement on fixed screws.

(4) Tires/Wheels
- Any standard wheel size/tire compound may be used. Tire size must match wheels, i.e., medium to medium, large to large.
- No modifications to the tire size/characteristics are allowed (including but not limited to: using parts cleaner, Zippo oil, etc.)
- Wheel piercing and the use of double-sided tape to mount tires is allowed.
(5) Rollers
- Only standard Tamiya roller count/sizes are allowed.
- No modifications of rollers are allowed.
- Worn (old) rollers determined to have excessively sharp edges are prohibited.
(6) Plates/Stays
- Modifications to plates and stays are limited to countersinking to prevent track damage, tapered edge processing, and super glue reinforcement.
- All stays must be mounted in a secure fashion.
- Unused screw holes may also be countersunk.
(7) Other parts
- Screws/shafts may not be cut to length or modified in any way. Shafts that protrude from pierced wheels (or stay-protruding screws) must have a rubber tube or ball cap attached to prevent injury).
- Battery holders must be from the original chassis (no swapping).
- No parts from a disassembled motor may be used, i.e., no motor shafts, motor spacers, etc.
- Batteries must be installed in the direction intended for the chassis (i.e., no FMAR).
- Only standard Tamiya brake pads are allowed. Catcher brakes and/or catcher underguards are prohibited.
- Treatment of brake pads (i.e., heat-treatment) is prohibited in principle, as there may be race locations where flame-producing products are prohibited.
- The use of polycarbonate body remnants, runners, carbon remnants, FRP remnants is prohibited.
- The use of mismatched chassis’ and A-parts is prohibited.
(8) Systems
- No lantern dampers allowed (period).
- Touhoku Dampers/Catcher Dampers/Guillotine Dampers, etc. are prohibited. ONLY original ball link dampers used in their intended position are allowed.
[2] Race Course
Races are to be held in accordance with official Tamiya regulations.
For B-MAX GP races, racing on a 3-lane circuit comprised of sections from the Japan Cup Junior Circuit (Item 69506), Junior Circuit Slope Section (Item 69570), and the Japan Cup Jr. Circuit Bank Approach 20 (Item 69571) is recommended.
[3] Sanctioned Races
Races are to be held in accordance with official Tamiya regulations.
[4] Tech Inspection
The use of the Mini 4WD Check Box (Items 95280/95548) and the Mini 4WD Clearance Gauge (Item 95613) is recommended for vehicle tech inspection to ensure compliance with official Tamiya and B-MAX GP regulations.
[5] Disqualification
Competing entries must comply with the restrictions outlined in the B-Max GP Regulations. Any entry not in compliance with B-MAX GP regulations will be subject to disqualification. Exceptions will be at organiser discretion.
[6] Race Management
Races are to be managed in accordance with official Tamiya regulations. Details outside the scope of the Tamiya and/or B-Max GP Regulations are to be left to organiser discretion.

- Event organisers are expected to comply with official Tamiya and/or B-Max GP Regulations, however, local event marshals have final say in any and all regulatory disputes.
